Christmas Service Song Ideas

We don't mean to be the people who blast the Christmas tunes as soon as the calendar flips to November... but for those of us involved in putting together the Christmas services, we're already sweating about the six thousand carol services we have to organise. Here are some song ideas to help you in your service planning, but most of all, to keep pointing us to the true and wonderful meaning of Christmas.

Come and Stand Amazed - Citizens and Saints

Come and stand amazed, you people
See how God is reconciled
See his plans of love accomplished
See his gift, this newborn child

This is an edgy recording of a translated medieval Dutch hymn. You could do this a little more low key as an item, or even introduce it across December in your services. Chord chart available here.

When I Think Upon Christmas - Hillsong Worship
For the joy of the world
You were born
Bringing peace to us all
For the gift of Your love
Now the darkest of ages are done
For the Saviour of heaven has come
This is a sweet little Christmas number, complete with a soaring choral backing vocal, string section and tambourine! This could work as a choir item, or a stripped back solo. Sheet music is available on Song Select.
O Holy Night (The Gospel Story) - Sovereign Grace Music
In towering grace, He laid aside His glory,
And in our place, was sacrificed for sin.
Fall on your knees! O hear the gospel story!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born!
Sovereign Grace has written two new verses to this well-loved Christmas favourite. No need for Mariah vocals, either! Sheet music is available here.

One Of Us - Emu Music

Glory to God in the highest
The light has come to shine through the darkness
The darkness will not overcome
For our God has come to his own
As one of us

An oldie but a goodie! What amazing truths to be singing and listening to at Christmas time - God became one of us! Sheet music available here

We wish you a wonderful Christmas as we sing and celebrate the birth of our Saviour Jesus. Do drop us a line at if you have any questions or concerns!
