My Heart Is Yours Now [Devotional]

What really inspired me to write this song was an idea I’d been reflecting on in my quiet time, which was that amazing, almost contradictory, idea that the truth of the gospel is so simple and yet so extravagant.
So when I starting writing the lyrics to the verse, I wanted to try and reflect that and the simple truth that we are now God’s through Jesus. Ezekiel 36:26 perfectly describes what I had in mind when I was writing this: the idea that when God works in us, our hearts become his:
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. Then you will live in the land I gave your ancestors; you will be my people, and I will be your God.” (Ezekiel 36:26-28, NIV)
The simple repetitiveness of this song is really trying to act as a reminder to all of us to never lose sight of the simple truth of the gospel and the love shown to us. As all the parts of the song come together, it summons believers to sing to God for who he is, to pray to God for his Spirit to work in us, and to rest in the amazing truth that Jesus has set us free to do all of this.
