On The Wretched Day
On that wretched day the soldiers mocked Him
Laughter could be heard in a barracks room
Hail the King they sneered while spitting on Him
Brutal beatings borne on this day of doom
Though His crown was thorn He was born a Savior
Royalty is veiled in the bleeding loss
His tormentors blind to the revelation
Jesus reigning there from a blood-stained cross
Jesus reigning there from a blood-stained cross
Tortured weakness marks the battered God-man
Far too broken now to hoist the beam
Soldiers strip Him bare and pound the nails in
See Him hanging there on the cruel tree
All the mockers cry if He is Messiah
Let Him save Himself and we will believe
But with faith in God Jesus knows that dying
Is the only way He can set us free
It's the only way He can set us free
Here's the one who said He cares for others
Claimed He came to seek and save the lost
How can we believe He'll save another
When He can't come down from the cursed cross
You who would destroy and rebuild the temple
Save Yourself if You are the Son of God
Little do they know that in God's grand wisdom
Sin is being atoned for by His blood
Sin is being atoned for by His blood
Dying in the dark He cries dejected
Why have You My God forsaken Me
But it is for us that He's rejected
Jesus bears the wrath instead of Me
God's own temple's down has He been defeated
Body is entombed in the solid rock
But the temple rises and stands victorious
For our temple is the Son of God
For our temple is the Son of God
