Chorus Of The Saved [Devotional]

CHORUS OF THE SAVED CCLI Song Number: 7027770. Devotional by songwriter Trevor Hodge, October 2015. I’ve sometimes heard people say that as we gather and celebrate as a church, that we are in some ways ‘rehearsing’ for heaven - that we’re doing in a little, temporal and flawed way what we’ll be doing in a much grander scale for all eternity.  While this is a wonderful image and a very important truth, the writer of Hebrews seems to think that it’s even more than this!In a real and profound way, as we gather around Jesus in our churches, we join with and participate in the ‘main event’! Jesus - the only true ‘worship leader’ - calls us to approach the throne of grace with boldness (Heb 4:16)....

Never Ending Praises [Devotional]

NEVER ENDING PRAISES © 2014 Benjamin David Malone. CCLI Song Number 7045690. Devotional by songwriter Ben Malone, August 2015. “From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the LORD is to be praised.” (Psalm 113:3, NIV) Every day for the rest of eternity we will serve and worship before our glorious God, exalting him and lifting up praises to him. It’s an incredible truth and something we should be truly excited about.  This song arose out of a realisation I had that eternity starts now, and so the praises of the age to come are something we can look forward to as we sing corporate praises to God now. There is so much we can praise God for,...

My Heart Is Yours Now [Devotional]

MY HEART IS YOURS NOW  © 2014 Wesley Mcintyre CCLI song number 7046031. Devotional by songwriter Wes Mcintyre, September 2015.  What really inspired me to write this song was an idea I’d been reflecting on in my quiet time, which was that amazing, almost contradictory, idea that the truth of the gospel is so simple and yet so extravagant. So when I starting writing the lyrics to the verse, I wanted to try and reflect that and the simple truth that we are now God’s through Jesus. Ezekiel 36:26 perfectly describes what I had in mind when I was writing this: the idea that when God works in us, our hearts become his: “I will give you a new heart and put a new...

Undivided [Devotional]

UNDIVIDED © 2010 Rob Smith, CCLI song number 5881312. Devotional by songwriter Rob Smith, August 2015.  I wrote Undivided after spending a morning reflecting on Psalm 86, and in particular verse 11: “Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.” Whilst the song was never intended to be a strict exposition of the entire psalm, I did try to incorporate a number of the psalm’s themes and phrases within it. The net result is a ‘prayer in song’ that, like Psalm 86, asks the Lord to help us respond to his grace with single-minded faithfulness and whole-hearted devotion. The understanding behind such a plea (as the ‘Collects’ in the...

No Other Name [Devotional]

NO OTHER NAME © 2010 Trevor Hodge, CCLI song number 5737284. Devotional by songwriter Trevor Hodge, August 2015. 2 Cor 4:16-18 Therefore we do not give up. Even though our outer person is being destroyed, our inner person is being renewed day by day. For our momentary light affliction is producing for us an absolutely incomparable eternal weight of glory. So we do not focus on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.I received an encouraging letter a while ago that really lives out the core theme of this song. “I was on mission...and I was hospitalised for over 3 weeks with typhoid with complications. We had very little internet but enough...
